A visit to Café Americain is an adventure for the senses. Café Americain is located at 7521 Jefferson Highway. One of the biggest reasons that Café Americain is a "best kept little secret" is because you may have difficulty finding it. It sells itself with its reputation for casual dining and great food. The Café is nestled away in a tiny corner of the Jefferson Plaza Shopping Center. Its sign is rather modest, simply stating "Café" - so now it's not such a secret anymore. Café Americain is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Café Americain has been open for business five years now and has recently expanded. The Café has grown from a tiny bar with six or eight tables, to a larger more casual restaurant that can accommodate the crowds of people who delight in the Café's uniqueness. The new Café offers warm surroundings with vines, mirrors, and flower arrangements hung on relaxing emerald green walls. One of my favorite decorations was a small section of one wall that depicts a charming wine cellar. The delightful dining room is an inviting setting for dinner. One great thing about the Café is the fact that the dining room is actually split into two separate rooms, one for smokers and one for non-smokers.
Café Americain offers you endless choices of American foods from its extensive menu. Start off your meal by ordering an appetizer. You have at least fifteen items to choose from, such as Fried or Broiled Stuffed Mushrooms, Shrimp Scampi, or try one of their best sellers - Quesadillas with Chicken, Crawfish, or Crabmeat. You'll also find an excellent selection of Grilled and Fried Seafood. Soups are another hot item. The Café makes its soups daily with lots of fresh ingredients - and their Crab and Broccoli soup can't be beat with large chunks of crabmeat and broccoli. For those who are sticking to salad, the Café offers a great selection such as Garlic Salad for Two, Grilled Shrimp Salad, Shrimp Pasta Salad and more!
Another excellent item from the menu was the Shrimp Orleans, two shrimp stuffed with crabmeat stuffing wrapped in catfish strips, deep fried and topped with a smashing mushroom and white wine sauce. If you like Crawfish, then you ought to dine at the Café during crawfish season and try their Crawfish Elegante. Crawfish Elegante is tempting sauteed crawfish tails in white cream sherry sauce over angel hair pasta, topped with lump crabmeat and fresh parmesan cheese. The Café has some of the freshest and best crawfish in town. The Café also just made the first two days of the week a little bit easier to bear by introducing their Monday and Tuesday night steak special. If you are a health conscious person then you'll be pleased to notice so many healthy choices on the menu. But the Café offers more than just what's on the menu. Ask your server about nightly dinner specials. You'll have a variety of dishes to choose from, all all at great prices. Leave room for dessert, or you'll be missing out. The Café has homemade desserts prepared daily, such as their Hershey pie. Another thing the Café is known for is the twenty-five different kinds of cheesecakes they make. That's pretty impressive. No matter where you eat lunch or dinner, stop by the Café for dessert and coffee. The Café has just added an Espresso and Cappuccino machine. Finish up your day with a cup and a piece of cheesecake.
The service is another aspect that makes dining at the Café an enjoyable experience. The servers were polite and efficient. The Café also has a private dining room for your business or personal parties. In addition to all its other qualities, Café Americain also does catering. For more info, call 924-9841.
